Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Tool & Die)
A 3-year (6-semester) AICTE-approved diploma at ISTC Chandigarh with 60 seats. Admission is through the ISTC entrance exam for Class 10 pass students. The training fee was Rs 17,500 per semester in 2026.

What you learn
The programme follows ISTC's workshop-first approach, rooted in its Swiss collaboration of 1963. Year one is common training for all students. Years two and three specialise in mechanical engineering with a tool and die focus, covering areas such as machining, fitting, tool and press tool design, jigs and fixtures, metrology, CNC and CAD/CAM. Six to eight weeks of industrial training is compulsory after the fourth semester.

Where it leads
Graduates typically join tool rooms, automobile and component manufacturers, and precision engineering firms in roles such as tool maker, CNC programmer, production or quality technician, and tool design assistant. Employers named in the 2026 brochure include Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Titan, Godrej and Sonalika.
Upgrade path
This diploma forms the first three years of the Advanced Diploma in Die & Mould Making. Seats in the Advanced Diploma are allotted at counselling, so choose your preference carefully.

Is this course AICTE approved?
Yes. The 2026 Information Brochure states that all ISTC courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
What is the eligibility?
Class 10 passed with Mathematics, Science and English, with at least 50% marks (40% for SC/ST). Candidates awaiting their Class 10 result can apply.
How is the course allotted?
By rank in the ISTC entrance exam merit list at counselling. When a course fills up, the next candidates can choose only from courses that still have seats.
